Family Friendly A short trail with interpretive booklet and historical significance makes this a great trail for families.

The trail is open daily, 7am to sunset. The park (and trails) are closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

Need to Know

$25/vehicle/week pass is required to hike in the park. Ranger-led hikes are occasionally available for no additional fee. The visitor center offers water and restrooms as well as visitor information.

Description

The trail begins near the Chaco Culture National Historical Park Visitor Center. A pamphlet can be borrowed or purchased from the visitor center; posts with numbers along the trail correspond to articles in the booklet.

After about 0.2 miles, the trail splits to go around the ruined pueblo. Turn right, then at about mile 0.25, turn right again to ascend the slightly steep path to the petroglyphs and views back down on Una Vida.

Return to the main path and turn right to continue circumventing the pueblo. One of the interesting things is that this ruin has not been excavated, so it remains in the same condition as when it was discovered by explorers.

At the junction, turn right to retrace your steps to the visitor center.
