Description

Rail Trail from Athens, AL to the TN/AL state line. Parking, restrooms, and pavilion with picnic tables available at both the south and north trailheads. The trail can be used by hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, or horse riding. The trail is mainly gravel with some areas of hard pack earth.

The town of Elkmont is about exactly in the center point of the trail, whether you start from the south or north trailhead. Elkmont also has parking and restrooms if you'd like to start your trek from the center. There is also a cafe and convenient store to grab a snack, as well as a few other little local shops.
