Description
This trail is a ski area type dirt road for two-thirds of the way, and then a narrower trail for the last third to the junction with the Furstin Gina Weg (Princess Gina Trail). This is how you can access the beginning of the Furstin Gina Weg (Princess Gina Trail) without using the Sareis chairlift (taking the chairlift saves about 375 meters of elevation and about 45 minutes of walking).
Starting from the town of Malbun, the trail begins near the parking area in front of the Alpenhotel Malbun on Turnastrasse Road. Trek uphill behind chateaus and alongside the junction of forested slopes and grassy pastures. Pass under the chairlift and continue steeply uphill. After about 0.7 miles, a narrow trail branches off at a curve in the road. (Take this option if you prefer a shorter, steeper ascent to the Princess Gina Trail. Continue along the wide dirt ski road if you want a more gradual climb over a much longer distance.)
As mapped here, the shorter/steeper narrow trail option soon switchbacks towards the north and aims at the top of the Sareis ski lift. The relentless climb twists and turns, eventually reaching some scattered trees. Pass over a ski run or two before crossing the ski area road. From this point, the terrain levels out and you duck into a short stretch of trees, finally reaching the ridge. Here you'll join the Furstin Gina Weg (Princess Gina Trail).
