Description
Log Chute is designated as a "hiking only" trail on the Snow Summit resort. Be alert for mountain bikers when hiking up the trail, as Snow Summit operates as a downhill mountain bike park in the summer and bike trails run near this hiking trail.
Ample parking is available at the base of the mountain. The hike starts in the vicinity of the ski lifts and is fairly well marked for hikers to follow. The trail starts as a steady incline and gradually gets steeper and steeper, turning to stairs in a couple of spots as it ascends through a few switchbacks. You'll be near the top when you encounter the wooden carving of a St. Bernard rescue dog.
If you've timed your hike while the resort's restaurant is in operation (Skyline Taphouse) you can purchase refreshments at the summit. If not, then the views off the north and south side of the mountain by themselves are also extremely satisfying.
