Need to Know
Restrooms at Crabtree Trailhead.
Description
Crabtree Meadow Trailhead had plenty of parking and restrooms, but no water. However the trail crosses a stream about 200 feet from the trailhead. It is a fairly popular trail for day hiking, backpacking, and fishing.
About 2.5 miles from the trailhead, the trail passes Camp Lake which is good for swimming. Shortly after Lillypad Lake about 5.5 miles from the trailhead, the trail goes over a ridge with great views of the surrounding mountains.
Gem Lake has many campsites all around the lake with the nicest at the south side. Buck Lakes are very pretty with great surrounding views. The lakes have nice campsites and are also fun to swim or float in since they were dotted with so many little rock islands.
Flora & Fauna
The beginning of the trail is forested with the occasional meadow. As it goes up in elevation, the trees are sparser and there are more rock outcroppings. By late August, the meadows were reaching the end of their blooms.
