Description
This leg begins in the Inside Desert at the base of Lookout Butte. The trail continues along the plains for a couple of miles until it descends into Clover Creek Canyon at Winter Camp, an old ranch. The trail follows Clover Creek for about 1.5 miles. This is an excellent place to resupply on water (definitely needs filtration), since it is the first consistent water source you'll encounter on the ICT in the Bruneau section.
There are a few trees along the banks of the creek that will provide you with some shade, an incredibly rare commodity in these parts. The trail climbs out of Winter Camp and returns to the sagebrush plains of the Inside Desert. At this point, you'll be approaching the Saylor Creek Bombing Range, so you'll likely see and hear jet fighters flying overhead, performing training missions.
Flora & Fauna
Sagebrush, ryegrass, mule deer, bighorn sheep, hawks, vultures, various desert wildflowers in the spring.
