Overview
For our first training run, we will leave out of Charit Creek Lodge doing a 20 mile counter clockwise loop and eventually returning to Charit. This route will keep us on the NB100 course for about half of the training run but will give runners a good feel for the type of terrain and technical trails they will experience along the course. Note, the
Laurel Fork Creek Trail is not part of the NB100 course but will be used to loop us back around to Charit Creek Lodge.
Description
We will leave from Charit Creek Lodge and head west, climbing out of the valley up to the ridge and the
Twin Arches. We will continue on the
Twin Arches Loop Trail through impressive rock houses and boulder fields winding along switch backs eventually dropping into a historical site called Jake's Place. From here, the training run follows the
Slave Falls - Charit Creek Trail for almost 3 miles to the Sawmill trailhead where it intersects with Fork Ridge Road, the same road that takes you out to the Charit Creek Lodge parking lot. We will have a water drop at the
Laurel Fork Creek Trail trailhead.
From here we will jump on the
Middle Creek Nature Loop Trail for approximately 3.5 miles and eventually bringing us back near Fork Ridge Road and Sawmill. From here you'll be back at the water station and then will take the
Laurel Fork Creek Trail for approximately 6.5 miles until it intersects with Black House Branch horse trail. We will have a steep climb out on the
Black House Branch Trail for about 1.4 miles until it intersects with the
Fork Ridge Horse Trail where we will take a left and quickly come out on the Fork Ridge Road close to the Charit Creek Lodge parking area. From here we will head north to the
Charit Creek Trail and eventually back to the lodge.
