The John Muir trail system is primarily for mountain biking. In the summer you may be asked to not hike the trails and use the nearby Nordic Trail System.

Need to Know

This is a fee area, so you'll need a yearly Wisconsin state parks pass. Mountain bikes use the trails clockwise while hikes travel counter-clockwise. The trailhead has potable water, toilets and a wash station for bikes. Call the Kettle Moraine South Trail line at 262-594-6202 for current conditions.

Description

This nice warm up trail takes you through pine and mixed hardwood forest and past several ponds within the South Kettle Moraine State Forest. The trail itself is mostly hard packed dirt with some rocky sections.

We went on the Rainy Dew Pass Loop - little longer than the orange trail. Great hike, didn't see too many people. More bikers at end where trails merg — 2h 20m
