This is an unmaintained, off-trail route and requires good navigational skills.

Description

At 5,000 feet, South Avalanche Mountain is #83 of the 120 Chugach State Park Peaks as listed on Peakbagger.com. Views from the top provide grandiose views of South Fork Cambell Creek Valley, Indian Valley, Ship Creek Valley, and the mountains in the area.

This trail is typically accessed from the Powerline Pass Trail from either end, as the trail shoots off from the top of the pass. There is a faint alpine trail leading up the north leg of the Powerline saddle up to a ridgeline that brings you to the summit of South Avalanche.

This trail has an intermediate/difficult rating due to its steep grade and lengthy approach via Powerline Pass Trail.
