Need to Know

The boardwalk floats over moving water and soft, marshy ground so the trail is not always stable. There are no railings on the boardwalk. Since the area is also open during winter, the boardwalk can get very icy.

Sometimes parts of this trail get so muddy and inaccessible when there has been a lot of rain. There are a few other trails and connectors that can be taken to get around problem areas if you want to get from beginning to end. Some of the connector trails do go up into much more rocky, steep and uneven terrain and will make the trail much more difficult.

Description

Indian Creek Trail runs from Elk's Nature Center to the Red Jacket Trail. Parts of this trail wind through wooded and open field areas, but the most beautiful and unique part is when it transitions to a floating boardwalk as the trail makes its way through the wetlands surrounding Indian Creek.

Along the creek trail, you can also see some smaller exposed dolomite cliffs.

Flora & Fauna

Lots of birds can be seen and heard in Rasmussen Woods. Hawks, eagles, owls, and woodpeckers along with numerous songbirds call the area home.

Quite a few whitetail deer gather here as it is one of the largest wooded areas in the city of Mankato.
