Trail shared by Zander Göpfert

A scenic, moderately up-and-down, river valley climb with easy access from Edwards into the Holy Cross Wilderness.

Features Fall Colors · River/Creek

Description

This is a great option to find a bit more solitude than some of the other nearby trails. It's an easy one to make into an out-and-back of any length and can be tracked in the winter for snowshoes, skinning, or even running (though much less dependable).

The first few miles undulate a bit but mostly track up, over, and then down, with some steep switchbacks above the river valley. From the bottom, the remaining ten-plus miles head uphill at a fairly consistent grade.

Longer loop options exist with Dead Dog Trail #2220 and Middle Lake Trail #2223, though this trail dead-ends at its southernmost point at Upper Camp Lake below Eagle Peak.
