The trail heads up the western slope of Staircase Mountain. Despite numerous switchbacks, the trail is still fairly steep in several places. As you gain elevation, the views are spectacular. You can see Old Maid Mountain to the west and the valley just below. To the north is the Prince Creek drainage and to the south is the Foggy Dew drainage.
