Description

Park at Canyon Glen Park. Follow the path through the center of the park (the bridge) to the Provo River Parkway. Look for the water tap along the path. Just east of this the trail rises steeply up the canyon side to the Salt Lake Aqueduct Road. Continue up hill to a saddle. Here, the official Bonneville Shoreline Trail/Great Western Trail goes left up the ridge, or follow the more scenic unofficial route straight (down) through Johnson's Hole, an odd depression. Together they make a great loop.

The ridge route follows the Dragon's Back ridge between the main canyon and Johnson's Hole, eventually reaching a dirt road. Follow this to the right for a hundred feet or so to another junction, then turn left. After a quarter mile, the GWT turns right up a singletrack, while the BST continues straight on the road to Orem.
