A hike through woods and wetlands in Canaan Valley.

Alex Dye

Features Birding · Fall Colors · River/Creek · Spring · Views · Wildlife

Description

From the junction with the Cabin Mountain Trail, descend through forest until you reach the crossing of north-flowing Glade Run. From here on, hike in an open, wetlands environment with pleasant views of the refuge in all directions. Ascend a small knob, and then descend again before joining with the Middle Valley Trail near Sand Run, which flows into the Blackwater River.

Unlike the Middle Valley Trail, Cabin Mountain Trail, and South Glade Run Crossing, all of which allow horses and mountain bikes, Sand Run trail is hiking only.
