Overview

At just over a mile in length, hikers of all ages will enjoy this stunning loop at the Lava Canyon Interpretive Site. The loop crosses over the Muddy River on two impressive bridges.

Need to Know

Northwest Forest Pass required at parking lot. Pay station available.

Description

Hike around some slick rock trail around the Lava Canyon area, crossing over the canyon twice. Use caution, as this trail is very slick when wet! The polished lava rock makes for some interesting, however slippery, trail surface.

This is an easy path to follow around, crossing a wobbly bridge at the north end (even if it makes you nervous, try to stop at the middle and look up the canyon!) and heading back up to the parking lot. The loop can be traveled in either direction.
