Overview

One of the classic alpine trails in Switzerland, a chairlift first takes you high up into the alps for spectacular views of turquoise lakes fed by the Pizol glacier.

Description

To start this hike, first arrive in the town of Wangs, then take a bus to the Pizol chairlift and then take the lift up to the trail. The journey can be taken from either direction and even made into a loop. However, for those that like a little less elevation gain, a more gradual slope initially, and to see the best lake first, start from the highest chairlift at Pizol Hutte. From there, you can then work your way back down to the lower chairlift, Gaffia. Along the way you'll see four lakes ranging in color from turquoise to brown. The trail condition is generally rocky, though not loose, so just watch your footing and you should be fine. If you hike this on a hot day in summer, you can plan to swim in one of the lakes as you pass.

Grab lunch at one of the restaurants after you're done to celebrate your effort.
