Need to Know

There is parking at the beginning of the trail, but no bathroom services or restaurants until you get to the nearest town, Livingston. By early summer the trail from the saddle below Livingston Peak east to Elephanthead Trail #37 is significantly overgrown and difficult to find, and in places does not exist at all. Plan on encountering tall brush, stinging nettle, and plenty of marshy sections and deadfall until the end.

Description

The ascent is difficult and trekking poles and shoes with good grip are recommended. There are some small creek crossings but not big enough to get your feet wet.

About 3 miles in, you can take a turn off to the right for a trail up to Livingston Peak summit. The last 0.4 miles of the trail is very difficult, gaining about 1,000 feet in elevation.

Flora & Fauna

There are multiple bear sightings throughout the summers. Lots of breathtaking wildflowers.
