Permits are required for overnight stays at the backpacker's campsites and also a separate year long permit for the Ohlone Wilderness.

Need to Know

Water is available in the backcountry camping area right after the Hawk Nest site, and restrooms are also located near that site as well as at Cathedral. The water that is available is not treated so be prepared to treat it.

Description

This is a great trail with a steady climb on a low to middle grade incline. The incline gets stepper as you approach the backpacking campsite gate. There are great views along the McCorkle Trail, with lots of birds.

Flora & Fauna

Oak trees, poison oak, chaparral, tarantulas, coyotes, birds, hawks, and rattlesnakes.
