Description

Trail starts at Barlow Pass on Mountain Loop Highway and follows the S. Saulk River where a rail line used to be. Trail is easy to hike, but be prepared before the first mile in as you'll have to cross the river on a fallen tree. The rest of the trail is pretty level with some larger rocks due to wash outs.

The trail ends at abandoned mining town called Monte Cristo. Some buildings remain and other artifacts. Go past the initial 3 buildings and take the bridge to the left, and you'll get to more ruins. Some of the land is privately owned and well marked so be respectful of the private property. Do not drink any of the river water, there are still contaminants from the mining operations. Past the village in a large waterfall and to the south of the village there is Silver Lake higher up.
