A stunning trail in Rila National Park.

Description

This trail starts from Hizha Malyovitsa and ends at the Rila 7 Lakes. Follow the red-blazed trail south along the creek. A few hundred meters up the trail, cross the creek and continue up the steep, rocky embankment. From here on, there are few trees, and you need to follow the blazes on rock and the cairns.

After 2.3 km (1.4 mi.), you'll arrive at a monument to people who have died here (this is a popular backcountry skiing location). Continue following the trail along the stream over soggy ground to the headwall where you can follow the steep, rocky path. The next 1.3 km (0.8 mi.) is very steep over loose rock. You then arrive at Deer Lake and see Malyovitsa Peak towering above you to the right (west). You have the option to take the direct route (exposed) to Malyovitsa Peak on the north side of the lake or instead carry on straight on the red-blazed trail around the southern side of the lake.

Continue up the rocky trail. You are now well above the tree line, and there is little to no vegetation remaining. Now 4 km (2.5 miles) from your start, the trail reaches the ridge and continues west shortly arriving at the second turn off to Malyovitsa Peak at the Malyovitsa Peak Trail.
