Description

Leaving the parking lot, follow the red trail signs to the Dunes. You'll enter deep woods and wind past some of the most rare spots in the entire preserve including the largest of the open sand dunes, which are still moving.

This trail also requires care; stay on the trail as this one takes you past some of the most rare plant species in the entire region. Circle back through the woods or connect to the All Purpose Trail to circle around the far side of the lake.

Flora & Fauna

Prickly pear, lupine, and sundew are a few of the rare plants here. In addition, you'll see woodpeckers, nuthatches, bluebirds, jays, squirrels, chipmunks, and mice!
