“An excursion to the ancient Hickory Ridge mound group.
”
The West Hickory Ridge trail branches off of the Weeping Rock Trail roughly halfway between the homestead parking area and the main overlook area.
From the Weeping Rock Trail, the route rolls gently through beautiful, cathedral-like oak-hickory forest before opening into a clearing. The clearing contains several ancient Native American burial and ceremonial mounds. The mounds are sacred sites; please respect them by not tramping on them.
Nice views invite users to pause for a second and take in a slightly different view of the Mississippi-Wisconsin River confluence.
At the north end of the trail, it loops back on itself and becomes the East Hickory Ridge Trail, which connects to the Myotis Trail and Bridal Veil Trail.
