Need to Know

This trail is very popular in the summer. It can get very rowdy and uncomfortable if you are looking for a quiet place to hike or enjoy the pond. After heavy rain, the trail is impassable at the north end.

Description

Terrace Pond has some great rock outcroppings with views of the pond, both on the east and west sides. The east side is more exposed. The south end of the loop has no views of the pond and can be difficult to find. The trail is marked with white blazes and some placards. At the north end, the trail shares the path of the Terrace Pond North Trail.

Just did this trail the other day and found it tougher than I expected. Normally we hike 25 minute miles but this one mile loop took an hour. Bearfort ridge geology is such that the layers of rock stand on end, and one has to use hands and knees in spots to climb the ridges, but the main problem with this trail is that the outflow of Terrace pond has submerged the trail at the north end. One must carefully cross the swampy area on floating logs. Poles are no help as you can not reach the bottom. The area is full of trash, mostly sandals which are probably sucked off the feet of kids heading there for a swim. Oct 6, 2018
