Need to Know
Total trail length closer to two miles.
Despite the trees, this is a dry environment, so pay attention to your water needs and stay hydrated. Water may be available at the springs but it should be filtered or treated before consumption. You should not count on these springs and should bring all the water you need with you.
Description
The Kent Spring Trail starts at its junction with the
Bog Springs Trail #156, about 0.9 miles from the Madera Canyon Picnic Area. Here the
Bog Springs Trail #156, which has been an old road up to this point, veers off to the east as a trail while the Kent Spring Trail #157 continues straight and up as the old road. The #157 is basically an old road from here all the way to Kent Spring. Gentle at first, the last 0.5 miles of road are fairly steep.
At 0.4 miles from the start of the #157, you'll pass a waterfall in the creek just below the old road. It's a short hike down to view the waterfall and the crystal clear pool at its base. At 1.0 miles from its start, you'll pass Sylvester Spring, and right after that, start your steep climb up the old road. The #157 ends at Kent Spring.
