Overview
Enjoy this flat trail paralleling the Kern River with beautiful scenery, water and a river bank at the end.
Need to Know
Bring plenty of water, you don't want to risk drinking the water from the side rivers!
Description
This route follows a rather flat trail, and there's not a lot of elevation change. For most of the hike, you'll follow small dips that move down and up on the side rivers that enter the Kern River.
This trail runs parallel the river the whole time and ends on the river bank.
The outing starts off on the soft sand, and gradually turning into a more rocky trail. The beginning of the hike is where you'll see more people walking their dogs, but as you go further you won't see a lot of people, which can be especially nice for those looking for solitude.
Though you can continue along this trail for quite a ways, we decided that a six-mile out (resulting in 12 miles out and back) was plenty for the day.
Flora & Fauna
We were warned for poison oak and snakes, but didn't see any of those.
