This is a popular trail for mountain bikers, be alert as you hike.
Upper Raven, or Upper Geriatrics as it's know locally, was expanded in 2017 and now completes a loop of sorts. The singletrack can be taken in either direction and can also be entered at two different spots from Lower Raven #121
If you start with the southern end, you'll go through a steady climb all the way to the top. Hikers will be rewarded with winding descents after crossing over Fuel Road
. Many local's prefer to approach from the north (as mapped). After turning onto the trail you'll go through a steeper climb that gets a bit steeper right at the top. Head over Fuel Road
to enjoy a nice descent with a few sections of climbing sprinkled in for good fun. Once you near the end, you'll cross over Fuel Road
again before ending at Lower Raven #121
If you did hike this counter-clockwise, the turn to the left at the end would complete a loop back to where you started. Turning to the right will quickly head down past the pedestrian-only Fitness Trail #90
to end at the parking area. This trail is a little rocky in places so you may have to slow down and watch your footing.
If it's your first time hiking the trail, take a few moments to enjoy the views as you reach the top as it has some of the best views of Sierra Blanca. Enjoy!
