Description

This is a bit of a rocky singletrack that climbs steeply from the Assietta Road (Unpaved Section) to the Gran Costa summit (2,615m/8,580 ft).

At the top of the summit, there are the impressive ruins of a large stone fortification built in the 1880's. The fortification was designed for 200 men with several gun emplacements to defend the valleys to the north (val Susa) and south (val Chisone) of Gran Costa from French invasion. The views from the fort are outstanding.
