Description

This southern loop winds through the land surrounding John Brown’s Cave. The property was once the location of a number of farmsteads, which you can still see the remains of in the stone walls, crumbling foundations, and old fencelines.

The terrain is fairly flat, with some elevation change toward Elm Creek and a few exposed rocks and small bluffs. The trail follows the topography, winding through the old fencelines.

The main draw of this southern portion of trail is John Brown’s Cave. The cave has an entrance you can walk into and explore for a short distance. The entrance is surrounded by a grotto-style rocky area, skirted by the trail.

The westernmost section of this loop heads along the edge of a large hay meadow grassland, offering beautiful prairie views.
