Description

This trail consisted of dirt singletrack and was mostly exposed. Therefore, the best time to visit is during the winter or spring months when the weather is cool. In warmer weather, start early as it gets hot in mid-day and there's not much tree cover. And bring plenty of water.

The trail starts from the parking area located just south of Grant Lake. From the parking lot, head north on Halls Valley Trail which winds along the eastern shore of Grant Lake. After about 0.3 miles, at the junction with Bernal Trail, take a right to stay on Halls Valley Trail which heads off to the east.

At about 0.5 miles along the trail, you'll reach a junction with Los Huecos Trail which heads right, stay left on Halls Valley Trail. The trail begins to climb an easy to moderate grade as it ascends the north side of the drainage. At 2.7 miles, Halls Valley Trail trail ends at the junction with Canada de Pala Trail.

We have done this trail a few times, and we have seldom seen other hikers on these trails, but we have seen wild boars and coyotes! It's best to hike there with a friend or a group.

Flora & Fauna

Grant Lake views, spring green hills, and wildflowers - purple smooth vetch and orange California poppies, are what Lakeview Trail is all about.

The hills of Joseph D. Grant County Park stretch on forever, with Grant Lake in the valley below on the left. Far in the distance are the blue Santa Cruz Mountains. Looking southwest from high on Halls Valley Trail.
