Overview

This is a great hike from Vila do Abraão (Abraão Village) to Cachoeira da Feiticeira. The route has many great sights to see along the way with the first stop at the Poção and Aqueduto (Aqueduct), then Cachoeira da Feiticeira, and finally Feiticeira Beach.

Need to Know

While you can do this hike as an out-and-back, it is also possible to return to Abraão using a water taxi from Feiticeira Beach.

Description

The hike starts on T01 at the north end of Vila do Abraão (Abraão Village) where begins National Park of Ilha Grande. Leaving the main square in front of the church of San Sebastián, follow the trail to the left, following along the beach. At the beginning of the street, you'll pass the headquarters of PEIG (Ilha Grande State Park), where you can see a mockup of the island and get more information about the work done by the park.

The trail continues along the beach until you reach a bridge, where there is a park surveillance booth. Just after the bridge, the trail branches to the left as the road continues along the coast. The trail climbs slightly and gives access to the Mirante da Praia Preta and the Poção that is next to the Aqueduct, where the T02 (Aqueduto - Saco do Céu) trail begins.

T02 starts by taking hikers through mangrove swamps. The trail is a bit challenging, and hikers should be prepared for a tough climb that will require a moderate level of fitness. Continue on T02 to Enseada das Estrelas (Star Cove) where there is signage at the trail to indicate the correct route to Cachoeira da Feiticeira (Feiticeira Waterfall), where you can choose to take a dip on a nice day. It is also possible to rappel down the face of the waterfall with local and certified guides.

If you are making the side trip to Cachoeira da Feiticeira, know that during peak season, the area can get quite busy. However, if you are lucky enough to visit during the off season, you have a good chance of having the waterfall all to yourself.

Returning from the Cachoeira da Feiticeira, hike back to the trail and continue on to Praia da Feiticeira (Feiticeira Beach).

Flora & Fauna

Be aware of snakes after rainy days. We found two of them on this trail, on a rainy day.
