This trail is enters the Diamond Peak Wilderness and the usual federal wilderness area regulations and restrictions apply here. Practice Leave No Trace (LNT) backcountry skills and ethics. Camp 100 feet from fragile areas; bury human waste at least 200 feet from water, trails, and campsites. This trail is usually closed by snow between November and May.

Description

This trail starts at a junction with the Vivian Lake Trail #3662 just past Notch Lake. From there, it passes through dense forests of mountain hemlock, noble fir and Pacific silver fir. Once the #3683 reaches the south side of Point 6475, it levels to parallel the mountain and continues climbing gently to Divide Lake, a small, shallow lake in a rocky setting between Mount Yoran immediately to the north and Diamond Peak to the south..

The summit of Mount Yoran is a fun, moderate 3rd Class scramble from any one of several excellent camp sites at Divide Lake.

East of Divide Lake, the #3683 continues climbing for 0.5 miles and then over the divide to end at its junction with the Pacific Crest Trail.
