This is a nice doubletrack that skirts the boundary of the preserve.

Need to Know

Parking is limited, so it's best to either park in the main parking lot off Corey Street or park in town at one of the several municipal lots and hike in from the north.

Description

The highlight of this trail is the Pine Forest and Horace Mann Monument near the end of the trail. Because of the preserve, you wouldn't know you were less than a quarter mile away (in some spots) from town. The trail is peaceful, and while you'll encounter other folks, there is markedly less traffic once you make your way away from the education center.

To stay on the trail, keep to the trail that stays east—there are multiple intersections along the way but all are well marked. At the end of the trail, you can continue past the boundaries of the preserve and continue east to connect with the trails at John Bryan State Park.

Flora & Fauna

Pine stands, mixed hardwoods, red-bellied woodpeckers, nuthatches, and squirrels of all sorts can be seen here.
