Description
This short spur trail leads from the main
Hump Ridge Track loop to the Okaka Lodge. The well-maintained boardwalk allows access to the lodge, but also continues up to the tarns above the lodge where, on a clear day, the 360-degree views of the lakes and mountains of Fiordland are not to be missed.
The trail loops around spectacular rock formations and several crystal clear alpine tarns, and you can spot Stewart Island in the distance. If you look closely to the south, you can see the impressive boardwalk of the
Hump Ridge: Okaka Hut to Edwin Burn section rolling along the ridgetop in the distance.
If you are staying at the Okaka Lodge (highly recommended) take a stroll out along this section at night for a memorable celestial display. If you are lucky, you might even be treated to the sight of the Aurora Australis.
