Description

This trail ascends the east side of the Massanutten ridge ending just south of Veach Gap.

From the east, this trail begins at a small parking lot approx. 4.5 miles south along Panhandle Rd. Head through the gate uphill on the dirt climb. Like most of the eastern ridge accesses, it starts as a gradual dirt-to-sandy-road and steadily climbs, increasing in steepness and roughness.

About half-way up the ridge, the trail follows an old wagon trail to the gap, with long sustained sections of 15% grade or more. The trail will become very rocky and washed out just before the ridge.

When you reach the ridge, you can head left on the Massanutten Trail towards Milford Gap (four miles), or right downhill to the PACT Little Crease shelter and the Veach Gap Trail (FT 484) and into Fort Valley.

Good steep trail that got the job done, got us onto the Massanutten. If you go north on the MT for a mile there is a great shelter. More campgrounds 2mi — 2h 00m
