Description

This loop (marked #6 on the MD DNR map) can be accessed from the southern parking by way of a short connector trail. Once at the mouth of the marsh, turn left (although you can hike in either direction).

The trail is marked with plastic posts with the name of the trail printed on a red square background. The trail meanders through the forest, first passing a few viewpoint platforms and then turning left away from the marsh. About a third of the way along, you reach the far end of the marsh. As you reach the northern end of the marsh, the trail traverses a campground.

The trail will appear to end when you reach the Elk River. Step over some logs to reach a narrow beach and turn right. Follow it a short distance until you reach the point you started. Return to the parking lot via the connector trail.
