“This is a trail that climbs to great views of Berg Lake, glaciers, and the surrounding mountains.”— Joan Pendleton
The Hargreaves Lake Route starts off in a fir forest as it immediately begins climbing. Very shortly, after about a quarter mile, it emerges from the trees, onto a rocky hillside, as it continues to climb. The views are great, and get more and more expansive as the trail climbs. Mt. Robson, with its Berg Glacier and Mist Glacier flowing into beautiful, turquoise Berg Lake, take center stage.
About 0.8 miles from its trailhead, Hargreaves Lake Route reaches a turnoff to Hargreaves Lake and Glacier Viewpoint Spur. This short 0.1 mile spur is well worth taking. It switchbacks up over rock and gravel to a ridge top where Hargreaves Lake and Hargreaves Glacier can be seen.
After passing Hargreaves Lake and Glacier Viewpoint Spur, Hargreaves Lake Route heads northeast, as it continues to climb over rock for about another 0.2 miles, to where it reaches its high point. From here, the trail descends very gradually. As it descends, it enters sparsely forested terrain. Looking past the trees, the views are still very good.
Hargreaves Lake Route reaches a trail junction about 1.8 miles from its trailhead. Here, Hargreaves Lake Route ends, as it meets Mumm Basin Route and Toboggan Falls Route.
