Description

Twin Lakes is a nice singletrack hike up to a scenic alpine lake. From the trailhead, simply head up. It will be a consistent, but not overly steep, climb to the lake.

The Fourmile Basin Trail #8113 goes off to the right at mile 1.7. At mile 3.4 the nature of the trail will changes to the original pre-logging trail. Hikers will soon hit Lower Twin Lake. You can keep going to the upper end of Lower Twin Lake. Beyond that, the trail enters a Recommended Wilderness Area and bikes are not allowed, which will cut down on the traffic you're likely to see past this point.

The Twin Lakes Trail and nearby Fourmile Basin Trail #8113 are mostly reclaimed logging roads that were reworked by the Forest Service into singletrack. The last section of each trail remains the original singletrack from before the logging work.

The trailhead can be accessed by two methods. The better and smoother option is on the Twin Lakes Creek Road west of Anaconda. The nearby alternative is signed as Twin Lakes Road (but it will probably require 4WD).
