This trail system is in a multiuse National Forest area. During hunting seasons, primarily deer and turkey (spring), you should wear BLAZE ORANGE. All forest users are expected to wear blaze during hunting seasons. There are not a lot of hunters in this area but there are some. A blaze vest or shirt ensures your visibility. Rangers are emphatic that all trail users need to comply with this safety rule.
Beaver Lodge Trail begins at Choctaw Lake and continues for 1.6 miles to the intersection with gated Walker Woods Rd. From this intersection, hikers have the option to turn right for a return to the lake via the Splashing Dog Trail or go straight across the road to Rabbits Run Trail, or to turn left and join Lost Cemetery Rd at its start .1 mi futher up the road.
This trail is mostly flat and is a good beginning trail for novice hikers. It runs through bottomland hardwoods as well as pines, and passes beaver dams on the Noxubee River. Water fowl are usually present on the beaver pond. The trail offers a nice view of the beavers work from bluffs above the river as well as from waters edge.
