Description

The Mule Mountain Trail connects the lower BLM Swazey Recreation Area to Mule Mountain Pass and into Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.

The trail is well-maintained, starting from the Wintu Trail, with a flat, smooth singletrack on former mining canal through oak woodlands. It then gradually gets steeper on some doubletrack with a few creek crossings. The final ascent is up the Terminator - a steep and rocky singletrack that curves around the drainage into mixed conifer forest at Mule Mountain Pass. From Mule Mountain Pass, the trail drops into Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and turns into the Salt Creek Loop Trail.
