Description
This trail system hugs the edge of the Timberlands and Delta Regions. Rolling hills through State Park and Game and Fish Land (Wear orange during hunting seasons). There are over 50 bridges on this trail, three of them large suspension bridges which give hikers a unique experience. Backpackers should be warned that past mile 8.5, the trail turns into an exposed levee and paved road from mile marker 8.5 to 14.
The state park has plenty of parking, playgrounds, camping, gift shop, clean bathrooms and pavilions. This park is very popular with fishermen and also features a kayak trail on the lake. A lot of wildlife can be found in the area.
There are 2 shelters on the trail for overnight camping. There are two shelters off the trail at mile marker 6, the first side trail leads to shelter number 1 and the second to shelter number 2. Both are secure shelters enclosed on three side with metal rooves. They each have fire pits and a picnic table and are situated on spurs looking out over the lake. Check with the park office for use.
