Description

Stanford Rock is a popular trail on the West Shore. This can be used as part of the Stanford Rock Loop, but some do it as an out-and-back as well. With the new Ward Creek-Stanford Rock Connector trail, it is possible to hike this trail without stomping across Ward Creek.

Much of Stanford Rock Trail is a long decommissioned logging road. The trail climbs through forests with views of Tahoe, open meadows with epic wildflowers, and great views south into Desolation Wilderness and beyond.

It is one of the harder sustained climbs in the Tahoe Basin.

There are a few short spurs to view spots. Be sure to check out the views on the way up. Enjoy!
