Description

The Pink Hill Trail crosses Painter Road, offers hilltop views, a stream, a quite meadow, and passes the Chestnut Nursery. Named for the moss phlox that blooms each April, Pink Hill is a serpentine barren: an ecosystem with an underlying bedrock with high levels of toxic nickel and an imbalance of magnesium and calcium.

This trail departs from the Scenic Loop. It is marked by a small sign that you must be looking for, but also by a pink bench (far easier to see). Follow the grass path through "Gate 7", making sure to close the gate behind yourself. After crossing Painter Road, this trail will give a glimpse into several ecosystems. Enjoy several water crossings, moderate climbs, and a nice tour of the natural world.
