Description

The trail starts from the junctions of Blackmare Creek and Cougar Creek and climbs to the ridge at a moderate grade. Once at the top you'll head down a very challenging and steep trail in the beginning. It can be loose and the rocks are big; the switchbacks help ease the grade only a little.

Further down, the trail mellows out with fewer rocks. The trail stays in the trees most of the way and can be moist down at the bottom. Overall, this is just a great downhill hike. Getting to the downhill does require some big loops or shuttles, however. One common loop is to use the North Fork Kennally Creek and then connect to the East Fork.
