“A Long Distance ridge hike connects across to the Telephone Loop.
”
The backbone of the northern WBC trails, Long Distance connects to the top and bottom of the Telephone Loop via a series of ridges and summits. It replaces the western side of the old Telephone Loop (which is not recommended for summer use) and allows the creation of various loops with Telephone Loop - East, Disconnect, Reconnect, Demi-Tel and Braggin' Rights. It also works really well as an out-and-back.
The singletrack runs along a number of ridge-tops and over small summits, affording views west & east at regular intervals. The grades are quite mellow, although there is a long sustained climb from the northern end to the first summit. The southernmost section is a little steeper and features numerous turns and switch-backs. This makes for a great descent on Northern Flow, but many people will climb this section, too.
