Family Friendly
A flat trail along a small stream makes for a kid-friendly hike with opportunities to get wet.
Description
This is an easy trail along the Rio Bonito to a large rock etched with ancient petroglyphs.
The hardest part of this trail is getting to the trailhead. The unpaved road leading from NM-220 to the trailhead is rocky and very steep. Four-wheel-drive is recommended.
The trail can be hot in the summer as shade is minimal.
Flora & Fauna
Cedar trees, mule deer, and the occasional elk can be found in this area.
This might have been great, but on my way in, I was greeted by a sign that said passenger vehicles are not allowed and the there was a steep grade.
