The first mile from the ranger station is mostly flat and rocky with a few twists and turns. Once you come to the fence, it is a different story, as the trail becomes steeper with larger rocks and switchbacks. Eventually, the trail becomes easier and continues to the Red River Fish Hatchery. You can start at either location. If you park at the ranger station there is a $3.00 fee.
