Description

The trail starts next to the Skaftafell Visitor Center and is well-marked. The first 250 meters go through the campground, but the trail then turns right and uphill. Follow the signs until you arrive at a viewpoint above the waterfall (140 m ascent in 1.5 km). Continue down into the ravine, where you'll get a spectacular view of the falls. You can choose to go back the same way or cross the footbridge and climb up the basalt column steps on the other side of the ravine. Continue on this trail to the viewpoint at Sjónarnípa, then head back towards the old turf house at Sel and then back to the visitor center via Lambhagi.

Late October - crowds are down, but the day is short and it is cold and icy.

Trail from Skaftafell Visitor Center was a little steep in the beginning but then it leveled out more or less. Trail is in excellent condition. 2.5mi — 1h 30m
