Overview

The Redbird Crest 100k is the only 100k trail race in eastern Kentucky and is one of the toughest trail running challenges in the southeast. The 62 miles of steep and rugged terrain will demand the best out of even the most experienced trail runners. Steep climbs, rocky descents, varying ecosystems, and amazing ridgeline views make this race a must for any runner wishing to see if they are up to the task of the Redbird Crest.

Need to Know

All runners participating in the race should have established trail running and ultramarathon experience. Runners taking on this trail should be aware that the trail system is multi-use. Runners may encounter horses, other hikers, mountain bikers, and ATVs, but traffic is very low.

Description

The Redbird Crest 100K route is a lollipop shaped out-and-back course. Runners begin from the Peabody Trailhead near the USFS Ranger Station and follow the Redbird Crest Trail for 10 miles to the Sugar Creek trailhead. Continue on the Redbird Crest Trail to the intersection of Trail #7A, the Gilbert Creek/Elisha Creek Loop. That loop is done clockwise the first time around. Runners go back to Sugar Creek Trailhead which is the turnaround point for the race.
