Family Friendly If you are looking for an easy trail that you can access from the resort, this makes a good option.

Description

This trail's name is a bit of a misnomer as it runs parallel to the train tracks and Hwy 40, and while it is still pretty, you definitely can hear some road noise as you hike along. The trail used to be much more secluded, but due to the removal of beetle kill lodgepole pine along the trail, what used to be dense woods is now a much thinner forest which allows for more noise to filter through.

You still have a couple nicely wooded sections where small run-off streams feed much larger spruce and fir trees. These sections are also where you'll likely spot wildflowers such as columbines growing in clusters. When hiked in the direction mapped, the trail is a steady but gradual uphill with a final short descent that pops out on the dirt road that leads to the ski resort's base.

Flora & Fauna
