Trail shared by Zander Göpfert

A wide, dirt road that makes for an easy, dog-friendly route along the North St. Vrain Creek.

Zander Göpfert

Features River/Creek

Family Friendly Easily accessible with scenic spots toward Button Rock Dam Access with opportunities to fish and explore by the water.

Description

This fire road makes for a nice, riverside route minutes outside Lyons at the end of County Road 80. Per the territory, it can be busy on weekends, especially as it's dog-friendly with fishing access all along the North St. Vrain Creek. There is a parking area right before the gate and trailhead, which can fill up, but parking is permitted along the shoulder of the road leading up to the parking lot.

The road itself is flat and wide with a very slight incline heading west. Wide enough to hike six across, it's a great option for groups. At just over 1.4 miles, the road branches to the right. Continue to the left onto the Button Rock Dam Access road, which almost everyone will be doing as well.

This trail was fun. My dog and I walked sleepy lion and looped around to this trail. Took a break and had lunch by the water ✌

We did this as part of the Sleepy Lion trail in order to make a loop. It also covers a portion of the north shore trail and a switchback at the dam. 5.5mi — 2h 28m
